To produce high quality products to document and cherish small and big moments in someone's life. To create momentum for people to change their lives through action, and the first step is to organize their thoughts and goals on paper.
Each and every journal is made by hand, and are made with high quality bookmaking materials. These journals are unique because they combine the traditional methods of bookmaking with contemporary color palettes and modern-day ideas. They encompass what Concepcioun is about: contemporary, unique, simple and elegant, organized, motivational.
Concepcioun Handmade Gifts specializes in handmade books, journals, notepads, and custom wedding guest books. The company is managed and owned by me, Christine Walker, a Syracuse/Central New York-based graphic designer.
Concepcioun has been a work in progress from 2005 until January 2009, when I decided to make my hobby of bookbinding into a serious small business venture.
My first exposure to bookmaking was in college, during one of my junior year graphic design courses. Our professor brought in a guest bookbinder, and I was immediately drawn to her porftolio of miniature to large handmade books. My interest was definitely related my love of form and function, and my need to create tactile work.
From that point on I was intrigued by the craft, and starting researching and practicing bookbinding. For almost a decade, I've been incorporating my design skills into bookbinding, and making a ancient craft into a modern idea.
Thank you for supporting the handmade community.
I pronounce Concepcioun as "cun-sep-shun," but you can call it "cun-sep-she-own" if you would like...
